Sha Gojyo

Gojyo is an incurable playboy, cracking dirty jokes at Sanzo and hitting on virtually any pretty girl in sight. He fights with a summoned dual-bladed jakujou. Its crescent blade is attached to a chain and he can control it for a mortally accurate long-distance attack. Gojyo gets quite touchy at the mention of his scarlet hair and eyes because it is the sign that he is a child of taboo, born from the unholy union of a demon and a human. Gojyo seems to have a brother complex, and often finds himself caring for Goku and other small children, despite his desire to look good for the ladies.
           
Gojyo’s father was a demon that had an affair with his mother, who presumably died shortly after giving birth to the young Gojyo, and he was forced to move in with his father’s wife and their purebred son. Gojyo constantly tried to win the love of his stepmother, but wasn’t able to succeed because to her, his hair and eyes were a constant reminder of his father’s infidelity.

Shā Wùjìng

Shā Wùjìng's appearance is rather grisly; he has a red beard and his head is partially bald; a necklace consisting of skulls makes him even more terrible to behold. However, he is actually a kind-hearted and obedient person and is very loyal to his master. Among the three, he is likely the most polite and the most logical. He uses the same weapon to dispatch Xuanzang’s adversaries as Gojyo, and he specializes in fighting underwater in one of his eighteen forms.

Before serving Xuanzang, Shā Wùjìng served in heaven as the general of the heavenly army. He was banished to earth as punishment for destroying a vase in a fit of rage. Little else is known about his past.

Comparison

            The two characters couldn’t be more different; Gojyo is a crude womanizer and Shā Wùjìng is a dedicated servant. It seems that only their weapons are similar, as well as the fact that Gojyo once served as a general in heaven before he reincarnated to his current form.
